FOIE GRAS NOIR / DUCK HEAD
EMILY CARR - FOUNDATION SHOW
The initial meaning behind the sculpture began with the concept of social media being forced down our throats, like a goose being force-fed to make foie gras. A cast of my own head, the bust is a plaster sculpture of a goose/human, including an anthropomorphic styrene beak. Black paint was used to represent the overall tone of the piece and accentuate the form and shadows, giving it the name Foie Gras Noir. The head was displayed in my first year of college at Emily Carr University with an elevated tube of fat inserted into its mouth. The connotation of the sculpture has since changed and evolved to be a satisfyingly odd piece, which prompted me to create another “duck head.”
